After a week of acclimation and sightseeing, we decided it was time to move on. We packed up our bikes, turned in the key to our room, and then decided to do a last-minute check of our bank accounts to make sure that everything was in order. Of course, it wasn’t. We spent another couple of hours on the phone with Bank of America and it looks like things are finally figured out, but by the time we were done, it was too late to start the 80km ride. Sheepishly, we asked for our room back, unloaded the bicycles, and headed back upstairs in our Spandex.
Having an unexpected extra day off turned out to suit us just fine We lounged around and did a whole lot of nothing, which was a welcome break after the preceding sightseeing-filled days. We tried to catch up on the blog (ha!), sent some emails, and just kind of enjoyed not feeling the need to see one more place or do one last activity. I was actually so harried the day before that I only got a few hours of sleep and I was looking forward to making up for lost hours and waking up for our long ride, refreshed, relaxed, and ready to go. We’ll give it ago again tomorrow.
Happily, we did do one very fun thing, which was to go to a Lucha Libre fight. This is Mexican professional wrestling, which is every bit as fake, and every bit as fun, as American professional, um, wrestling except that everyone wears masks! Sadly, we were not able to take our camera inside, but here is a photo of us grabbing tacos outside while clutching at a bill featuring the schedules fights for the evening:
